We will discuss both the part separately. Afflicted houses & afflicted planets one by one. We will discuss both the part separately. Afflicted houses & afflicted planets one by one.
Important houses for one’s chart are as mentioned below;
(1) Ascendant – 1st house – Lagna
(2) Kendra House which is also known as angular houses – 1st, 4th, 7th & 10th house
(3) Trikona houses (Trinal houses) – 1st, 5th & 9th house
Now, we will discuss how these houses will become afflicted as below;
1. There is placement of natural / functional malefics in these houses such as Rahu, Ketu, Mars, Sun etc. based on individual ascendants
2. The dispositor of these house(s) will occupy dusthana houses such as 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th & 12th house in one’s D-1 chart
3. The dispositor lords of these house(s) are placed in the sign of its debilitation in D-1
4. The lords of these house(s) are placed with functional / natural malefic planets
5. The dispositor lords of these houses are placed in the sign of debilitation in the divisional charts
6. The dispositor lords of these houses are retrograde or stationary in the natal D-1 chart
7. The dispositor lords of these houses are combust by Sun in natal chart
8. The dispositor lords of these houses are placed in enemy signs in D-1 chart
9. The dispositor lords of these houses are in infant avastha (0 degrees to 6 degrees) or old avastha (25 degrees onwards)
10. These houses are under aspects of natural or functional malefic such as Rahu, Ketu, Saturn, Mars, Sun etc based on individual Ascendant
11. The dispositor lord of these houses are placed 12th from its house, eg. suppose one has Cancer sign in 4th house and its lord Moon is placed in 3rd house – Gemini sign in any chart.
12. The dispositor lord of these houses occupy 8th house from its sign. eg. Suppose one has Ascendant Scorpio & its lord Mars is placed in Gemini 8th house. Same way 2nd house lord in 9th house, 3rd house in 10th house etc. (In some cases not applicable such as Aries, Taurus, Sagittarius signs)
13. The house is hemmed between two malefic planets. eg. if one has Malefic(s) such as Sun, Mars, Rahu, Ketu, Saturn in 6th & 8th house, so 7th house is getting hemmed between two malefic planets so person’s marriage life will be affected, similarly this is applicable to all house.
14. This can be seen from both D-1 chart & Moon rashi chart.
Now, let us see the parameters for planets to be afflicted as below;
1. Planet is placed in sign of debilitation
2. Planet is either stationary or retrograde
3. Planet is placed in Dusthana houses such as 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th or 12th house
4. Planet is placed in enemy sign
5. Planet is functional malefic as per individual Ascendant signs
6. Planet is placed in conjunction with functional malefic signs
7. Planet is combust
8. Planet is placed in the own significator house such as
a. Jupiter in 5th house will cause problems related to children
b. Venus in 7th house will become cause of worries related to marriage
c. Saturn in 10th house will cause problem related to career
d. Moon in 4th house will cause problem related to mother & motherly care
e. many more…
9. A planet owning either the third, sixth, or eleventh house will be a bad planet. A planet owning two of the above three houses, will be a very bad planet.
10. A planet owning the eighth house will be a malefic planet, unless it also owns the first house, and is placed in a house owned by it. If the planet owning the eighth house is a luminary, it will be a neutral planet.
11. If a planet owns the second or twelfth house and another house, the nature of the planet will be determined according to the other house owned by the planet, since for the purpose of ascertaining the nature, the second and the twelfth houses are taken to be neutral.
12. A planet owning the second house will have the ability to terminate the life of the native when the longevity has come to an end. Such a planet is called a maraka planet. A naturally beneficial planet that owns the seventh house will be a maraka. This does not hold true for a naturally malefic planet.
13. A maraka planet owning a triangle will first give good results in its period, and may later end the life of the native. Such a maraka may be termed a good maraka.
14. A planet that owns two houses, one of which is a good house and the other an adverse house as above, shall be classified as a good-but-impure planet. It must be kept in mind that in this case if the mooltrikona sign of the planet falls in an adverse house, the planet will have more malefic tendency in it. If on the other hand, the mooltrikona sign falls in a good house, the planet will have more beneficial tendency.
15. The houses of a category shall gain in strength with their distance from the ascendant. Thus among the triangular houses, the ninth house is more powerful than the fifth, and the fifth is more powerful than the first. Similarly, the eleventh house is more adverse than the sixth, and the sixth is stronger than the third, etc.
16. A neutral planet in sambandha with a planet will take on the nature of the planet with which it is in sambandha.
17. A Node of the Moon will give results of the houses the planet with which it is in association owns. The Node will also give results of the house it occupies. The nature of the Node will be influenced by the nature of the planet with which it is associated. If there is no association, the nature will be determined by the sign and asterism occupied by Node.
a. When the Node occupies a house it becomes the most powerful factor in giving the results of that house. Therefore, occupation of an adverse house by the Node will make it an adverse planet for the chart.
b. The Node becomes an excellent planet when it occupies an angle and is associated with the owner of a triangle, or, it is placed in a triangle and is associated with the owner of an angle.
18. A planet is said to be lajjit (abashed) if it is associated with (at least one of) the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu or Ketu in the fifth house. In the major-period or sub-periods of such a lajjit planet the native has to wander aimlessly, his wife and children fall ill and suffer, he is separated from his family, and the native gets confused and worried.
19. A planet in a watery sign having the aspect of an inimical planet and no beneficial aspect is called Trishit. Such a planet in its major-period or sub-periods causes financial harm and disease to the native. If it is located in the tenth house it causes loss to the native through the wrath of the government.
20. It is not bad to have Venus in the twelfth house, Mercury in the eighth or Jupiter in the sixth. However Venus in the twelfth should not be in the sign or navansha of Saturn.
21. A luminary (the Sun or Moon), if hemmed in between malefic planets, gets the power to kill.
22. Malefic planets gain in strength if they are associated with the Moon.
23. If a planet is powerful in a sign it can retain its nature even under adverse aspects. The aspect is also an indication whether the native would act on his own or he will be aided or hindered in his task by other factors. The planets that are beneficial for the chart shall, by their aspect help a matter, those that are adverse will hinder. For example if the owner of the tenth house is unaspected, it means that the native will not be helped or harmed in his profession by anybody.
24. Of the two malefic planets, Saturn and Mars, the latter afflicts the Moon more whereas Saturn is considered a bigger malefic planet for the Sun than for the Moon.
25. If a malefic planet (including the owner of the sixth, eighth or the twelfth house) is located in a sign, the part of the body indicated by that sign will bear a mark, wound or scar. A beneficial planet so placed will make that part of the body fully developed. If the house indicating that part of the body is also similarly afflicted, the native may have serious trouble there.
26. A sufficiently powerful beneficial planet aspected by malefic planets may not give its full good results. A badly placed or debilitated malefic planet aspected by beneficial planets will not give adverse results. It will become neutral.
27. The sub-period of one planet in the major-period of another in the sets of following planets will generally be troublesome:
a. Mars and Rahu
b. Mars and Saturn
c. Sun and Saturn
d. Moon and Mercury
e. Venus and Jupiter
28. Planet marked with an asterisk shall be good only if it occupies its own house:
The list of planets which are good-but-impure or maraka for various ascendants is as follows:
(1) Mood is afflicted (malefic) if it was waning at the time of person’s birth means if one got birth during Krishnapaksh of the month then Moon is malefic or afflicted.
(2) Mercury is very soft planet, if it is placed with malefic, it will become malefic planet & if Mercury is placed with Benefic, it will become benefic planet.
