As per my reading in Ancient scriptures, I have never read anything related to Pitru Dosha. Vedic astrology does not clarify Pitru Dosha. Personally I do not believe in it because of the planetary positions person suffers not because of his/her own ancestors..! But based on the discussion with some elder, experienced astrologer, I will try my best to explain Pitru Dosha!
Pitru Dosha or Pitra Dosh is caused by multiple combinations in a person’s horoscope. Major reason is said to be Sun – Saturn connection. Either exchanges of houses by these two planets, one aspecting another, both aspecting each other, both conjunct in same house can cause Pitru Dosha. Similar relation between Jupiter and Mercury can also cause Pitru Dosha, but at with lesser effects.
Curses of forefathers is said to cause Pitra Dosha according to erudite & experienced gurus, but reality is that, one faces this only because of his/her past life deeds. There are millions of souls in this world who are not resting in peace. All the souls are ancestors of someone who are alive today. But, reality is that ancestors are not the one who are deceased, but the ones who are never born and will never die.
When one person suffers from Pitru Dosha, his/her family will struggle to see next generation. Either they will not have kids, or their children will separate from them, or no male kids in next generation will end their Gotra. There may be various combinations in horoscope leading to Pitru Dosha such as…
See less• If the ascendant, is occupied or aspected by two or more malefic planets like Saturn, Rahu, Ketu or Mars; it generates Pitru Dosha.
• If the ascendant lord is placed in fifth, eighth or tenth and is united with any of the malefic planet viz. the Saturn, Rahu, Ketu or Mars; it generates Pitra Dosha
• If Jupiter is afflicted by malefic planets (Saturn, Rahu or Ketu) and also placed in ninth house of the birth chart; it generates Pitru Dosha.
• When fifth house is occupied by any two planets among Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu; it creates a Pitra Dosh related with progeny. Under such circumstances, the native suffers very badly on account of progeny or children.
• Ketu is situated in the 4th House of horoscope – One receives the malefic effects of Planet Moon.
• If Sun or Moon or Rahu or any two out of these three or all these three planets are situated in the 7th House of the horoscope- The planet Venus becomes inauspicious and gives malefic effects to the native.
Causes of Pitru Dosha
• Main thing which causes this Dosha is your own bad karma in the past lives as your own ancestor so now you came again to pay back & remorse for the same.
• The misgivings or negative Karmas of one’s ancestors in their life time – this can be intentional or unintentional, known or unknown
• Misgivings of the present generations that upsets the ancestors soul
• Unfulfilled desires of the ancestors
• Lack of fulfillment of parental desires or wishes by living offspring
• Sudden or unnatural death of ancestors caused due to weapons, accidents etc.
• Failure to honor or appease ancestors soul
It is important to pacify ancestors’ soul for a happier, prosperous and healthier life. Offer salvation to their souls with Shraddh Puja
Effects of Pitru Dosha
• No Male Child to continue the Gotra
• No children at all
• Frequent abortions
• Disputes between siblings, leading to separations
• Son discontinuing educating or career without proper reason
• Children refusing to marry
• Cannot find suitable person to marry
• Physical or social restrictions block marriage and progeny
• Kids getting addicted to alcohol or drugs
• Children dying before carrying on till next generation
• Mentally or physically challenged children being born

• Mosquitoes, cockroaches and ants in house despite heavy pest control
• Always in debts and losses in business.
• Frequent change of job or no job at all
• Children disrespecting elders.
In a horoscope, judging afflictions of 9th house will also give clear idea of Pitru Dosh.
Because 9th house tells us about karmic balance coming from past life (lives), Saturn or sun badly affecting that house leads to this problem.
Remedies to reduce Pitru Dosha Effects
No remedy can completely nullify a Dosha as one has taken birth to experience his/her karmic debt and clear it. But few methods can reduce the intensity of those effects.
• Take blessings from parents every day before leaving the house
